The Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Cape Town has an opening for a part-time position in the Cultural and Protocol Unit. Applications are open until July 15, 2024.

The Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Cape Town has an opening from September 1, 2024 for the position of a part-time employee in the Cultural and Protocol Unit.

Employment is governed by South African labour law and remuneration determined by South African regulations and the Consulate General’s salary scheme.

The Cultural and Protocol Unit is the central service unit for all projects of the Consulate General.

Position description:

  • assisting the team and general secretarial tasks in all matters pertaining to the Culture and Protocol Unit
  • preparing events and event management
  • preparing (official) visits and trips of delegations (including booking hotels, transport, restaurants, and catering)
  • administrative support in project management
  • administration and maintenance of the unit's lists and databases
  • data research and support for other units at the Consulate

Required qualifications and experience:

  • excellent oral and written command of the English language
  • good proficiency of the German language
  • excellent oral and written communication skills
  • being quick on the uptake and willingness to familiarise themselves quickly with new topics
  • friendly and service-oriented demeanour, even under pressure and during times of heavy workloads
  • organisational skills, independence, ability to work in a team, flexibility, reliability, discretion
  • good PC user skills (Word, Excel, Internet, Outlook)
  • experience in a comparable position

Applicants are also expected to

  • show flexibility and availability outside normal office hours (within the framework of flexible working hours)
  • have a work permit (Work Permit or Permanent Residence in RSA) or be a RSA citizen
  • reside in South Africa and be well-acquainted with the Cape Town region and the Western Cape

In the case of equally suitable and qualified applicants, the position will be filled by a person from a previously under-represented employee group.
