The Political section is mainly involved in the monitoring of the political development in the Eastern Cape, Northern Cape and Western Cape provinces and the close bonds of partnership between the Western Cape Province and Bavaria (since 1995) and between the Eastern Cape Province and Lower Saxony respectively. Furthermore the Consulate General attends to the large number of German visitors and delegations and gives advise for visits of South African politicians emanating for these provinces to Germany.

The Legal and Consular section offers many services to our customers, be it visa, passports, answering questions of German citizenship, or any other consular services.

Internationale Buchmesse Kapstadt

The Cultural section of the German Consulate Cape Town is cooperating with the German and local South African-German cultural and educational institutions to strengthen the cultural relations with the Western, Eastern and Northern Cape.
We are dealing with cooperation in the school and tertiary education sector as well as issues relating to the arts and sports.
We are working closely with our South African and German partners at the relevant institutions and departments.

The Economic section supports German interests in the economic, commercial and environmental sectors in the Cape provinces and acts as liaison between German companies and public institutions and organisations and private companies.The section works closely with the regional Cape Town office of South African - German Chamber of Commerce and and offers information about Germany as a business location and Germany-related economic questions.

The Economic Cooperation and Development section administers a micro project fund through which local organisations can obtain financial support.

Furthermore, the German Consulate is member of the Western Cape Network for Community Peace and Development.

The Press section is tasked with the monitoring of the media in the Eastern, Northern and Western Cape provinces and with supporting their representatives and German journalists working in this part of South Africa. In addition it updates the website of the Consulate General.
