The fees we charge are stipulated in German law, for example in the Passport Act or the Regulations on Fees for Services Abroad. Fees are set in Euro and will be converted into South African Rand (ZAR) according to the Embassy's exchange rate. The amount is rounded up or down to the nearest 10.- ZAR amount.

Fees are payable in cash in Rand (ZAR) or by credit card (Visa or MasterCard)

  • Due to technical reasons, failures in credit card payments may sometimes occur.
  • Credit cards will be charged in Euro from Germany and additional bank charges may apply. Please ensure that the security measures of your bank do not prohibit credit card charges from abroad.

Fees for Other Services

The fee schedule for consular services has been adapted with effect from 01.10.2021. Fees are now charged on the basis of the “Besondere Gebührenverordnung des Auswärtigen Amts (AABGebV).

Background information: The AABGebV implements the specifications of the Federal Fees Act which came into force in 2013. The reform of the federal fees structure brought with it a strengthening of the principle of cost recovery. This is to ensure that all costs incurred with a public service that can be attributed individually to a single person must be charged to that person and not to the public (i.e. the taxpayer). Thus the previously applied principle of equivalence in the administrative fee calculation, according to which there should be a balance between the fee charged and the significance or economical value of the service received has been abandoned. Please see in detail here.

Thus the following fees are now being charged:
