Micro-projects: Call for Applications 2025
With the Micro-project scheme, the German Embassy seeks to support NGOs / NPOs and other civil society actors which support marginalised and impoverished communities or communities in transition
Implementing the German Feminist Foreign Policy and the Just Energy Transition, the focus of the support is on the following sectors in South Africa, eSwatini and Lesotho:
- Women’s rights, access to equal education and health care, women’s resources and representation
- Anti-discrimination of any kind, gender equality, anti-discrimination of sexual orientation and physical disabilities
- Measures supporting the Just Energy Transition
- Local economic development/alternative livelihoods, especially in communities with phased-out revenues from fossil fuels, small-scale farming
Applications from the priority target regions of Mpumalanga and Limpopo will be given enhanced consideration. Projects for Eastern-, Northern- and Western Cape are managed by the Consulate General in Cape Town.
Subject to meeting the criteria described in the guidelines, funding of up to 25.000 Euro can be granted for one project. Each project has to be finished by the end of the same year it started.
Please send the application form to the German Embassy by taking the following aspects into account:
- Describe your organization (members, financial background, etc.),
- Provide reference to projects already initiated by your organization (experience),
- Explain the project you seek financial support for (target group, etc.),
- Provide a detailed financial estimate of the project (project’s self-contribution, donor’s contribution, membership dues, land) as well as
- Indicate time and location of the project.
Please make sure to read the guidelines carefully and submit all documents necessary.
Please keep in mind that, among others, the following costs cannot be funded:
- Salaries of your organization's employees
- Administration and travel expenses
- Operational and recurring costs in general
- Acquisition of land or allocation of loans etc.
Please direct your application for funding and all subsequent documents to microprojects@pret.diplo.de by 31 March 2025.
The application form itself must be dated, signed twice and sent as an original to:

Please note that incomplete or incorrectly submitted documents can lead to exclusion of funding.
Should you not have been contacted by the Embassy by May 2025, please consider your application declined. Unfortunately, the huge number of applications makes it impossible to reply to everyone individually.
